What We Offer at SST

Spring Swim Team (SST) is a year-round competitive swim team affiliated with USA Swimming — the governing body of the sport in the U.S. and the pathway to national and Olympic-level competition.

We offer multiple practice groups tailored to swimmers of different ages and experience levels. Our goal is to help every swimmer reach their full potential — whether that means learning the basics or training to compete at the highest levels.

What Swimmers Learn

All of our groups focus on:

  • Proper stroke technique for all four competitive strokes

  • Starts, turns, and finishes

  • Endurance and strength development

  • Goal setting and confidence building

Some swimmers join to develop fundamental skills. Others set their sights on qualifying for elite-level meets — even the Olympic Trials. Wherever your swimmer falls, we’ll meet them at their level and help them grow.

Who Can Join?

We welcome swimmers ages 4 to 18.

Whether your child is just getting comfortable in the water or already has competitive experience, our coaches will assess their skills and place them in the right training group.

Swim Meets & Competition

SST participates in USA Swimming–sanctioned meets year-round.

  • Swim meets are encouraged for all swimmers, but not required for every group.

  • Meets are typically held once per month.

  • Proficiency in all four strokes is NOT required to start competing — many swimmers begin with just one or two.

These meets provide great opportunities to track progress, set goals, and gain confidence.

Practice Schedules

Practice groups range from:

  • 2–3 sessions per week, 45 minutes each

to

  • 5 sessions per week, up to 2 hours each

After an initial evaluation, our coaches will recommend the best training group for your swimmer based on their age, ability, and goals.

Meet Fees & Volunteering

  • Swim meets are typically held at various locations around the Houston area, approximately once per month from October through April.

  • Meet participation expectations vary by practice group:

    • Beginner groups: Meets are optional but encouraged

    • Upper-level groups: Regular meet participation is expected

    • Select groups: Meet participation is required

  • Swimmers are responsible for meet fees, which are charged to your account at the time of entry.

Volunteering at Meets

Unlike many swim teams that require dozens of volunteer hours, SST keeps it simple.
If your swimmer is attending a meet, we ask that your family help with timing — a shared responsibility among all SST families at that meet.

  • We divide the team's assigned timing shifts between attending families

  • Typical timing shifts are 30–60 minutes per meet

It's a great way to support the team and stay involved without a heavy volunteer commitment.

Financial Assistance: Outreach Program

We proudly participate in USA Swimming's Outreach Program, offering reduced fees for families who qualify for financial assistance.

There is a $150 annual fee for participation in this program (in addition to regular registration and dues).

To get started, contact your school counselor for required paperwork. SST will complete and return the necessary documentation.
